Do we have to look after ourselves before and after the trek ?
The choice is yours. If you are booking a trek or climb as part of a longer stay in Nepal or an extended visit to Asia, you may already be established in Kathmandu or entering the country via a land border. In which case I will meet you at a pre-arranged place (usually your hotel) and time at least two days before we leave Kathmandu for a pre-trek briefing.

However, if you are flying into Kathmandu specifically for the trekking holiday, I will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After refreshments we will conduct your pre-trek briefing.

The pre-trek briefing: During the briefing I will collect the trek payment, plus any airfares. You will be provided with a receipt and we will discuss what will happen during the next two days. In particular we will discuss baggage allowances and check that all members have the appropriate clothing or equipment for the trek or climb. Should any clothing or equipment need to be hired I will take you to a hire shop in Thamel (Kathmandu).

Post-trek: If you are leaving Nepal soon after the trek I will arrange a transfer from your hotel to the airport. For successful climbers I will arrange and deliver your NMA certificate confirming your successful ascent of your chosen trekking peak.

What happens on the day of departure from Kathmandu ?
You will be advised the evening before your departure from Kathmandu at what time in the morning you will be picked up. You are advised to arrange a packed breakfast in advance as we are likely to leave the hotel before the restaurant opens. At the airport everything will be taken care of, all you need to do is keep close amongst the organized chaos! Once all the baggage is checked through it's time to relax and look forward to a spectacular mountain flight. We will be met by our Sherpa crew at the destination airstrip, and our baggage transferred to a local lodge while the porters / yaks are organized. Then we're off !!!

How do I go about paying for the trek ?
Understandably people feel very uneasy sending money in advance to someone they do not know, even when they might come with high recommendations, which is why I only ask for a deposit for large trips that require expenditure in advance.

I'll meet you at the airport and help you transfer to your hotel where I will collect the trek fee, payment must be in US$ travelers cheque or dollars cash (You must have US$ cash for the internal flights). As an official mountaineering & trekking guide I have a photo card ID with a unique number. I'm happy to provide this information with your receipt. This will be your security as it is registered with the NMA and ministry of tourism. Following discussions about the trek to come we'll make arrangements for onward travel, rental of equipment, or perhaps some sightseeing.

Can you arrange accommodation in Kathmandu ?
Yes
Although it is possible to book your accommodation directly with many of the hotels and hostels in Kathmandu, I can book accommodation at select hotels. Contact me with your requirements.

Can you organize flights / road transport into the trekking area ?
Yes
I can reserve flights once I have received confirmed details of passenger names. These flights must be paid for in US$ cash, which I will collect from you on arrival. Road transport can also be arranged.

How about airport transfers ?
Yes
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, and at the end of your stay you will be taken back to the airport. Any transfers required to get to the trekking area will also be provided.

What about additional mountaineering equipment i.e. fixed ropes ?
Additional equipment such as static ropes and mountaineering ropes for fixing can be hired in Kathmandu. A wide range of other equipment and clothing is also available, although it is not always possible to guarantee sizes (particularly if you take a large shoe size). I include a guide to typical rental charges for the most commonly hired items.

These items are at an additional cost to the group.
